What I will do if elected -

Cross Border Health Care

Cross Border Health Care is an issue I have been working on for some time.

In July 2025 I submitted a motion to full council at Powys County Council requesting Council -

* Oppose the discriminatory waiting time disparities and advocate for equitable treatment for Powys patients attending English hospitals.

* Call upon the Welsh Government to provide immediate funding support to PTHB, addressing the challenges of cross-border healthcare commissioning and ensuring equitable access to timely care for Powys residents.

 * Demand systemic changes in healthcare policies that ensure all patients, regardless of residency, receive fair and timely treatment.

* Mobilise collective community support to raise awareness of these issues and challenge practices that compromise patient well-being and economic stability.

This motion reflects our steadfast commitment to healthcare equity and the well-being of Powys residents. It is essential that we work together to address these systemic challenges and fight for the dignity and rights of all patients.

I have received care at Hereford Hospital  and I understand first hand the desperation regarding waiting times for Welsh patients.

Powys Teaching Health Board are in a financial crisis. One of the first things I would do is look to understand the funding and lobby to address the issue of rurality.

Social Care Crisis

We are facing a crisis with social care for the elderly. An issue I am very familiar with due to my day job.

We have issues with bed blocking, unsafe discharge from hospitals and huge waits for care packages.

We need to look at workforce retention, terms & conditions; including pay and more joined up thinking between social services and the health board.

Sustainable Farming Scheme - SFS

Having grown up on a Radnorshire farm I understand the rural way of life. I may not have gone into the farming as a career but I have an 80 year old Father at home who is still to be found lambing ewes and tending to he Hereford Cattle as he is unable to give up his life long passion. Farming is more than a career its a way of life.

As a child summer holidays were taken at the Royal Welsh Show and animals had to be fed 365 days a year.

I therefore understand the issues facing famers regarding the scheme and the worry about the negative impact on family farms. I am able to sit at the table at bait time and listen to these worries first hand.

I would stand up for our rural way of life and do all i can to protect Welsh farming for our children and generations to come.

Free Child Care For Working Parents

In England working parents receive 30hrs of free childcare from 9 months of age to 4 years.

Sadly in Wales this is not comparable.

In Wales 30hrs of free childcare is not available until your child is 3 years old, unless you are in "Flying Start" area, of which there is an area of the very South of the constituency only.

I would be lobbying for parity throughout the whole of the constituency and Country.

NHS Dental Services

The way dental services are commissioned by health boards in Wales needs to be urgently addressed and new contracts need to be devised.

There is a desperate need for dental surgeries in the North of the constituency, with many practices closing in the last two years and residents being unable to register with an NHS dentist.

Palestine

In February 2024 I formally questioned Powys County Council on Pension Investments with firms supplying armaments to Israel.

I stated:

We are all aware of the horrific conflict Israel is inflicting on Gaza and the devastation caused to Palestinian people. It has been reported that a large number of pension schemes have funds invested in companies suppling weapons or systems to Israel.

Could the head of service investigate if Powys has money invested with such companies, and if so; confirm this will cease."

I will continue to support this line of work.

Net Zero

I support the principle of Net Zero but we have to be realistic.

I do not believe it will be possible to achieve net zero in public services by 2030. This time scale needs revising.

I support the proposal to build low carbon social housing in Wales and I firmly believe we all have a role to play.

However I do not believe a corporate company littering the Radnorshire countryside with turbines s that are 220 meters tall is the answer,

I would like to look at community projects on a smaller scale, making them more self sufficient. I would also like to investigate harnessing hydro power. We have numerous water sources in the constituency and I would like to consider utilising this power.
