I joined the committee of Presteigne Little Peoples Playgroup in 2003.
I became Treasurer and remained on the committee for 7 years.
In that time I was part of the small team who oversaw the playgroup being approved by the Care Inspectorate for Wales and moving to new premises at the primary school.

As a wealthy landowner he set up a trust fund to help pay for the education of children in East Radnorshire. The trust fund is still in operation to this day awarding grants for education purposes to both individuals and to departments of the John Beddoes Campus.
A small group of Trustees run the charity, with meetings being held three times a year. The Trust fund is a registered charity and completely separate to both Powys County Council and Newtown High School.
The Trust Fund makes grants for educational purposes. This may involve funding travel, the purchase of books, course material and equipment such as computers. Grants are also made to the school to enhance school life.
I am the Chair of the Trust Fund.

I started volunteering at Presteigne Primary School in 2004, helping out with class activities and "Welly Walks".
I am a Governor of both Newtown High School & Presteigne Primary School. Roles I have undertaken for many years.

We need to be offering a first class education system in order to retain these students.

Elan Valley Trust (formally the Welsh Water Elan Trust; Charity No. 1001347) was established by Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water, by agreement with Government, in 1989. With the formation of the charitable trust Welsh Water also leased much of the land of the estate to the new trust in view of expressed concerns about the future of the publicly acquired estate following the vagaries of privatisation. In this 999 year lease the Trust is responsible for much of the landed estate with some specific reservations such as; the lakes and reservoirs, forestry areas and the Visitor Centre.
The Trusts objects are to promote conservation, appropriate public access and disseminate information about the estate. All the unenclosed farmland is subject to a right of public access on foot, and there are many rights of way and other points of interest.

In January 2014 I had the mad idea of resurrecting Presteigne Carnival.
Having run for many years it sadly ceased in 1997.

Having run for many years it sadly ceased in 1997.
I called a public meeting and with a small band of volunteers with myself at the helm we managed to organise a carnival in 6 months.
It is probably the thing I am most proud of.
It was a huge amount of work and we had very little funds to back us.
I begged & borrowed all sorts from fence stakes from the local farmer to mark out the kids football pitch to a dome tent from Sheep Music.
But we did it!
We pulled off the most fantastic day & evening of music.
I was Chair for several years before handing over the reigns.
I am proud to say the Carnival has gone from strength to strength and is now a much looked forward to community event.
I decided Presteigne should have a street party for the Queen's Platinum Jubilee.
I recall street parties as a child and I thought why not let the younger generation have the fun we did.
I had a grant of £250 from the Town Council and manged to close the High Street and we filled it with tables & chairs and all the community came together for a fabulous fun filled day.
